The Value of MBA - An HBS Alumni Perspective

Before i start ranting about my personal MBA side story, let me share with you an interesting article that i came across while wading through multiple online articles about the value and future of MBA. This article, published in HBS's harbus, is actually an alumni perspective provided by Paul Shafer, an HBS'79 grad.

It is interesting to know that even an HBS MBA is not a sure shot way to success, as many of us might have mistakenly believed. So those of you out there, who are disillusioned by the "interview denied" news from HBS last week, take heart. There is still hope as long as you didn't place an undue importance on the actual HBS brand than the value of an MBA in assisting your career progress.

Without any further adieu, the link for the article is here. But, I should commend HBS for actually posting this highly critical & cynical article in their campus newspaper. One should also note that what has been said about HBS here in this article, would only apply to a even greater degree to other schools with even less pedigree than HBS.

So don't bank too much on the actual institution (M7 or not) in which you plan to do your MBA, but place greater emphasis on the opportunities to develop actual skills in the course of your MBA, which is what would ultimately help in making yourself marketable and land that dream job.
